The first forms of organized education in Prijedor date back to the first half of the 19th century. In 1834, Prijedor established its first elementary school, which later evolved into a State School in 1919, following its transformation from the so-called Communal School. One of the city’s most important educational institutions, the Prijedor Gymnasium, was founded in 1923.
Today, Prijedor has 12 elementary schools with approximately 4.700 students and six high schools attended by 2.200 students. The municipal educational system also includes a music school and a special school for students with developmental disabilities.
The educational system mandates elementary and high school education, with English language instruction beginning in the first grade of elementary school.
Higher education institutions in Prijedor include:
● The Higher Medical School (OPEN PAGE)
● The Higher School of Economics and Informatics (OPEN PAGE)
● The Faculty of Mining, which operates as a department of the Faculty of Technology in Banja Luka (OPEN PAGE), with more than 1,800 students enrolled.
Faced with numerous challenges in the labor market and recognizing the misalignment between educational outputs and local business needs, the PREDA Agency has implemented various projects to strengthen the technical and technological capacities of educational institutions. These efforts include equipping school laboratories and workshops, as well as providing training for teaching staff.
In cooperation with local partners and with the support of the City Government, the PREDA Agency has established adequate facilities and resources available to local businesses for both formal and informal education programs. These initiatives aim to provide training for unemployed individuals as well as specialized skill development for employed workers, ultimately improving labor market efficiency.
Within the Prijedor Business Center and the PREDA Agency, the following facilities and programs are available:
● Coworking Space
● Creative Center (HUB)
● Multimedia Center
● Regional Chamber of Commerce and Chamber of Crafts and Entrepreneurship
● Resource Center for the Wood Processing Industry
● Practical Training Labs for various trades at the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Agriculture and Food, the Catering and Economics School in Prijedor, the Sunce Center in Prijedor, and the High School Center in Kozarska Dubica.
